Stevens dedicates Vincent A. Rocco '67 Technology Center

HOBOKEN, N.J. — On Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, Stevens Institute of Technology will dedicate the newly named Vincent A. Rocco ’67 Technology Center. The building, located one block north of 6th Street on River Street, will house a number of research initiatives at Stevens, including the Environmental Plasma Laboratory and the Institute for Multifunctional Macromolecular Materials.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled to take place at 1:15 p.m. in the Rocco Center, 614 River Street.

Special guests will include family and friends of the late Dr. Vincent A. Rocco, members of the Stevens Board of Trustees, the environmental engineering community at Stevens and corporate colleagues.

The facility has been named the Vincent A. Rocco ’67 Technology Center in recognition of Dr. Rocco’s many contributions to the campus and to the field of environmental engineering. Rocco was an active member of the Stevens community, serving as chairman of the advisory board for the School of Applied Sciences and Liberal Arts, chairman of the advisory board for the Center for Environmental Engineering and a member of the Board of Trustees.

An alumnus of Stevens, Dr. Rocco earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1967. He went on to pursue a Master of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1970 and 1973, respectively. In 1994, Stevens presented Dr. Rocco with an honorary doctorate in engineering.

Dr. Rocco was a generous supporter of Stevens throughout his life. In recognition of his generosity, the office of undergraduate admissions was named the Mary E. and Vincent A. Rocco '67 Admissions Center in 1994.

A registered professional engineer in 12 states, Dr. Rocco was recognized for his leadership in the development of air quality planning, noise control and environmental impact assessment procedures for industrial transportation facilities.

Dr. Rocco passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 29, 1998, in West Hartford, Conn.
