Stevens inaugurates a campus alert system

E-mail & texting alert systems will be operational January 14, 2007

HOBOKEN , N.J. ― One of the goals of Stevens Institute of Technology’s Emergency Response Plan is to provide the campus community with accurate and timely information in emergency situations. Stevens has made arrangements with a vendor, Codespear, to provide an e-mail and cell phone text message notification system.

“Stevens is committed to the safety of all members of the campus community and the alert system provides a way to communicate quickly in emergency situations,” said Joseph Stahley, Assistant VP for Student Development, “

Enrollment in the alert system is now open. Instructions are below.

The alert system will become operational on Monday, January 14. On that date those who are enrolled will receive a test message. Stevens plans to use this system in the following situations:

  • School closing or a delayed opening
  • A major power outage or utility alert
  • A dangerous condition on or near campus
  • Targeted announcements

Those who enroll will receive all community-wide announcements. The system also has a provision for announcements targeting employees, undergraduates or graduates students. Please select the role(s) describing your status.
