The partnership signing ceremony was held at Stevens Wesley J. Howe Center.
Dr. Harold J. Raveche, president of Stevens, as well as Stevens faculty, alumni and administrators, and officials from Navy Lakehurst were on hand for the signing.
The agreement provides a way for Stevens students and faculty to benefit from the experience, unique facilities, equipment and technologies available at Navy Lakehurst, the U.S. Navy base in New Jersey that includes the Naval Air Engineering Station and Naval Air Systems Command. Opportunities to work with technologies such as those in shipboard networking and aircraft carrier integration will add to the wealth of real-world experiences available to Stevens students. The agreement also creates a formal vehicle for information exchange between Stevens faculty and Navy Lakehurst.
The U.S. Navy will benefit from Stevens cutting-edge research, such as research in new environmental technologies and the latest software applications for design, development and production of parts. Stevens non-thermal plasma technology applications such as those licensed by PlasmaSol, a new company associated with Stevens, are expected to lead to environmentally sound practices that can be applied to maintaining Navy aircraft and reducing pollution. The Navy also expects to employ electromagnetic technology to the aircraft launching capabilities of carriers, thus improving significantly on the steam-powered launchers used today.
