Undergraduates include four with perfect 4.0 GPAs

During the undergraduate ceremony, Stevens will celebrate four seniors — including two who are twin brothers — who have distinguished themselves by earning perfect 4.0 grade point averages, thereby achieving the highest academic average in the Class of 2000:

dewees.jpg (62758 bytes)Robert Dewees, a resident of Glenside, Pa., and the son of Anne Lowry and the late Richard Dewees, receives his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. During his time at Stevens, he received the Edwin A. Stevens Scholarship and the Gustav Freygang Award for Mechanical Engineers. His final project at Stevens was the Society of Engineers Mini-Baja Vehicle built for Senior Design Day. He has been involved in the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Photo Club and the Yacht Club. He will take a job with Beckton Dickenson in the company’s three-year manufacturing development program, where he will assist with design, production, planning and quality control.

patel.jpg (65225 bytes)Minita Patel, daughter of Rita and Siddharth Patel of Charlotte, N.C., is currently attending medical school while completing her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Biology at Stevens. She plans to complete medical school and pursue a career as a surgeon. While at Stevens, she received the Edwin A. Stevens Scholarship and the Scholar of Excellence Award. She was involved in the Indian Undergraduate Association, cross country and served as a tutor for Stevens’ Academic Support Center.

gquinn.jpg (66840 bytes)Gregory Quinn, a resident of East Hanover, N.J., and son of Thomas and Dolores Quinn, receives his Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees. He took part in Stevens’ Cooperative Education program and the New Jersey Space Grant Fellowship and conducted his senior design work on the SAE Mini-Baja Vehicle. He was a team captain for Stevens’ track and cross country teams and was involved with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, for which he was the student chairman; Chi Phi Fraternity; and the Newman Association. While at Stevens he received the North Jersey Section ASME Scholarship and the Robbins/ECAC Scholar Athlete Award, among other awards. After graduation, he will work for Hamilton Sundstrand in its Space Systems Division, Advanced Technologies Department.

mquinn.jpg (62526 bytes)Michael Quinn, a resident of East Hanover, N.J., and son of Thomas and Dolores Quinn, receives his Bachelor and Master of Engineering. He participated in varsity track and field, the jazz band, Chi Phi fraternity, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, Kappa Theta Epsilon Co-op Honor Society, and the Newman Association. He also was named honorable mention on USA Today’s All Academic Team and received the Gustav Freygang Award for Mechanical Engineers, and the ASME North Jersey Region Scholarship, among other awards. In addition, he was the founder of the College Sport division of the U.S. Paintball League and founder of the Stevens Paintball Club and Team. After graduation, he will be employed by Ashland Chemical, Emabond Systems, as a project engineer.
