The Lyric Orchestra to perform Mozart, Schubert, Wagner
For its first concert of 2001, The Lyric Orchestra features an exciting evening of Mozart, Schubert and Wagner as it continues its third concert season at Stevens Institute of Technology. This Jan. 27 event also includes a free pre-concert lecture by Paul Somers, editor of Classical New Jersey. (Details about the concert program are at the bottom of this page.)
Funding for this concert has been made possible by a block grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts State/County Partnership Program for the arts administered by the Hudson County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs - Robert C. Janiszewski, County Executive and the Board of chosen Freeholders. The Lyric Orchestra is based in Hoboken, N.J.
The 45-member orchestra, conducted by Maestro Franco Bertacci, brings together extraordinarily talented young musicians (average age 25) from more than a dozen countries. Its players, selected by audition, include an impressive variety of top students and recent graduates from The Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music and other renowned conservatories worldwide. Guest artists and soloists from the region are also regularly featured.
The orchestra performs its regular season at Stevens' elegant DeBaun Auditorium, the recent winner of a statewide award for historic preservation. The auditorium is conveniently located about six blocks north of Hoboken's historic transit terminal, with service from New York and New Jersey.
