Stevens alumnus Harold Holz to be honored by his alma mater
Plastics engineer Harold Holz will receive the 2001 Stevens Honor Award from his alma mater, Stevens Institute of Technology, in Hoboken, N. J., at the Alumni Association's autumn festivities.
The award will be presented at the Stevens Alumni Association's Awards Banquet and Dinner/Dance on Oct 13 on the Stevens campus. In receiving this award, Mr. Holz will join a list of such distinguished individuals as former New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean, R. Buckminster Fuller and Peter F. Drucker.
Holding bachelor's degrees from Stevens in both science and engineering, Holz is credited by the Stevens Alumni Awards chairman, Ronald Parisi, with having distinguished himself in a life's career devoted to the plastics industry. Starting with the Bakelite Company (now Union Carbide), Holz's work ranged from the development of 33 1/3 rpm vinyl records to Tupperware food containers. Holz currently is a consultant for Marvel Industries, Mamaroneck, N.Y.
Last year Holz received the plastics industry's highest award with his induction into the Plastics Hall of Fame. His professional industry associations include leadership roles in the Society of Plastics Engineers, the National Plastics Center and Museum in Massachusetts, the Plastic Institute of America, and the Plastics Academy.
Holz and his wife, Joanne, have made Chappaqua, N.Y., their hometown for the last 35 years.
