Tiny Technology Leading To Big Breakthroughs

Can you imagine pulling a flat screen computer the size of a pen out of your pocket and receiving real-time information? How about paying just pennies a month for electricity? Can nanotechnology make these concepts become reality in our lifetime? Two of the leading forces in nanotechnology explore these questions and more on the next edition of Technogenesis.

Technogenesis is a weekly TV program produced by Stevens Institute of Technology (Stevens), in cooperation with cn8, the Comcast Network. This week's program features the expertise of Dr. Zvi Yaniv, president and COO of SI Diamond Technology and president and CEO of Applied Nanotech Inc., as well as Dr. Julie Brown, chief technology officer at the Universal Display Corporation.

The Technogenesis program, "The New Frontier of Innovation" airs at 7:00 p.m., on cn8, the Comcast Network, each of the following Sundays in New Jersey and parts of neighboring states, including the Philadelphia and Baltimore regions: August 25, September 8, September 22, and October 6. The program will also appear at various times throughout the week on the local Comcast outlets in Prince William and Fairfax counties, Va., as well as Prince George's County, Md. Hosted by Stevens President Dr. Harold J. Raveche and veteran TV journalist Steve Taylor, each program includes special guests from the areas of science, technology, government, education, business or industry.

Dr. Zvi Yaniv has guided Applied Nanotech, Inc. in Austin, TX to become a leader in the display industry utilizing electron field emission from carbon films/carbon nanotubes. An authority in electro-optics, liquid crystal technology, amorphous semiconductors, technology commercialization and business management, Dr. Yaniv has published over 100 articles, holds more than 50 patents, and has extensive contacts in the U.S., Europe, Israel and the Far East.

Dr. Yaniv introduced to the world a new expression of kinetic art (Digital Window), allowing static two- or three- dimensional artworks to become dynamic and interactive.

Dr. Julie Brown has been with Universal Display Corporation, since 1998. Under Dr. Brown's leadership Universal Display Corporation has become a leading developer of flat panel display technology. She was previously a Research Department Manager at Hughes Research Laboratories and has co-authored over 80 publications and conference presentations.

Co-produced by Stevens and Comcast, the half-hour Technogenesis programs feature government, research and industry leaders discussing some of the most challenging real-world issues facing science and technology today.
