Today's Venture Capital Market - From Innovation to the Marketplace

How much do you know about the world of venture capitalism? For many it's a foreign notion with a risky connotation. But in fact, today's venture capital is critical for the development of tomorrow's most advanced technologies. On the next edition of Technogenesis, two formidable leaders in venture capital, John Whitman and Gerry Schaafsma, join Stevens President Dr. Harold Raveche in an in depth look at the profound impact of venture capital on our nation's economy.

Technogenesis is a weekly TV program produced by Stevens Institute of Technology (Stevens), in cooperation with cn8, the Comcast Network. This week's program features a look into the business of providing capital for business. The program gives an overview of the impact of venture capital in bringing a new product to market.

The Technogenesis program, "Today's Venture Capitalism - From Innovation to Marketplace" airs at 7:00 p.m., on cn8, the Comcast Network, each of the following Sundays in New Jersey and parts of neighboring states, including the Philadelphia and Baltimore regions: November 17, December 1, December 15 and December 29. The program will also appear at various times throughout the week on the local Comcast outlets in Prince William and Fairfax counties, Va., as well as Prince George's County, Md. Hosted by Stevens President Dr. Harold J. Raveche and veteran TV journalist Steve Taylor, each program includes special guests from the areas of science, technology, government, education, business or industry.

Gerry Schaafsma, a general partner of Anthem Capital Management, has over 20 years of business experience, including venture capital investing, start-up business management, engineering and Wall Street banking. He joined Anthem Capital Management as a general partner in 1997, and opened Anthem's Philadelphia office.

John Whitman, president of Sycamore Ventures, has been a managing partner of the firm since its inception. Bringing 30 years of experience to the table Whitman focuses on a broad range of industries and later-stage financing.

Co-produced by Stevens and Comcast, the half-hour Technogenesis programs feature government, research and industry leaders discussing some of the most challenging real-world issues facing science and technology today.

The Comcast Network is one of the nation's largest regional cable networks reaching more than to 4 million households in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
