Savvy Cyber Teacher® is a 30-hour graduate-level course enabling teachers to use Internet-based resources to engage students in quantitative, inquiry-based science and mathematics projects in which they gather, download and analyze real-time and collaborative-based data in order to draw conclusions, discover scientific principles and, in effect, become real scientists.

"More than 8,000 teachers have participated in the Savvy Cyber Teacher training," said Meg Turner, Manager of District Outreach Programs at CIESE. "Independent evaluations by Harcourt Educational Measurement have shown positive impact on students' science and mathematics achievement and teachers' skills and pedagogy.

"In a study of selected classrooms," she said, "eighty-six percent of students showed noteworthy gains on the science and mathematics learning objectives. In addition, teachers reported spending less time lecturing; being more comfortable with small group activities; using more cooperative learning techniques; feeling better prepared to teach for different learning styles; being better teachers of problem-solving; and feeling more competent at presenting complex materials according to an external evaluator.)
