CIESE is selected one of the three finalists for the EdNET 2004 awards

HOBOKEN, N.J. — The Center for Innovation in Engineering and Science Education (CIESE), located at Stevens Institute of Technology, has been selected as one of the three finalists in an outstanding set of entries in the Not-for-Profit HERO category of the EdNET 2004 awards.

The EdNET Industry Awards are the only educational technology awards that honor companies and non-profit organizations that have either made significant contributions to education or industry growth, or show great promise to become a significant player in the industry in coming years. Nelson B. Heller & Associates will announce the 2004 winners during an awards banquet held September 28 at the EdNET 2004 conference in Chicago.

Meg Turner, Manager of District Outreach Programs for CIESE, will be attending the banquet to acknowledge this recognition for CIESE, who is a finalist along with the Florida Virtual School and the NASA Center for Distance Learning.

CIESE was founded in 1988 to improve K-12 science and mathematics education through the use of technology. Drawing upon Stevens' years of experience as the first college in the country to require students to own a computer (1982), early programs utilized mathematics "tool" software for exploration of mathematical concepts at the high-school level.

Since 1988, programs and activities have reached more than 20,000 educators worldwide, received grants and contracts totaling approximately $22 million, and have received accolades from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the National Science Teachers Association, and others.
