HOBOKEN, N.J. — Four years after the historic groundbreaking in Hoboken , N.J, Stevens Institute of Technology will next week dedicate the latest addition to its campus academic facilities.
The Lawrence T. Babbio, Jr. Center for Technology Management will open its doors for dedication ceremonies, October 7, 2005 . The award-winning six-story building, which contains 95,000 square feet of classroom, office and public space, will enclose the new administrative home of Stevens’ renowned Wesley J. Howe School of Technology Management.

The first floor and picturesque Atrium of the six-story structure, with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, will be the scene of a full menu of opening-day activities.
Doors open at 11 a.m. , with a dedication luncheon (by invitation only) from 12:30-1:15 p.m. The formal dedication ceremonies in the Babbio Center ’s DeBaun Atrium will commence at 1:15 p.m. with remarks from Stevens President Harold J. Raveche. Further opening remarks will be made by Mr. Lawrence T. Babbio, Jr., who is Vice Chairman and President of Verizon Communications, and also Chairman of Stevens’ Board of Trustees.
The Acting Dean of The Howe School, Dr. Lex McCusker, will introduce the event’s keynote speaker, Ms. Patricia Russo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Lucent Technologies.
The formal ceremonies will be followed, 2:00-4:15 p.m. , by two consecutive expert panels that will convene in the multimedia-equipped auditorium on the first floor of the Babbio Center . The first panel will address issues of Security Technologies and their importance to national security. The panel will be moderated by Mr. John Rennie, Editor-in-Chief, Scientific American. Panelists will include Edward Amoroso, Vice President for Network Security, AT&T; Michael A. Frank, Assistant Director and Agency Information Security Officer, Technology Services Department, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; Manu Malek, Industry Professor and Director, Cybersecurity Certificate program, Stevens Institute of Technology;and William Pelgrin, Director, New York State Office of Cyber Security & Critical Infrastructure Coordination.
Panel Two will feature a discussion of Technology Convergence in Telecommunications. The panel moderator will be Mr. Almar Latour, Technology Bureau Chief, The Wall Street Journal. Panelists will include Bill Barhydt, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Sennari Entertainment, Inc.; George Calhoun, Professor, Business and Technology, Stevens Institute of Technology; Charles (Chuck) Kalmanek, Vice President, Internet and Networking Systems, AT&T Research; and Michael Tribolet, Executive Vice President Operations, Vonage.
