Frank Ianna joins Attila Technologies as CEO

Veteran telecom senior executive will guide Stevens tech company

HOBOKEN, N.J. — Frank Ianna, former President of AT&T Network Services and a 30-year veteran of the US telecommunications industry, has joined Attila Technologies LLC as Chief Executive Officer. Attila Technologies is a Technogenesis ® Company incubated at Stevens Institute of Technology. The announcement of Ianna’s appointment was made by Dr. Helena S. Wisniewski, Stevens’ Vice President for University Research and Enterprise Development, who is Chairman of Attila’s board.

“This is a breakthrough moment for Attila Technologies,” said Wisniewski. “Not only is Attila gaining a great telecommunications business strategist with its new CEO Frank Ianna, but the technology itself is being explored as a centralized application for the ‘intelligent automobile’ of the near future, along with previously identified market applications in first-responder and military communications.”

“For decades, Frank Ianna has been an innovative force within one of America’s most important and dynamic industries,” said Stevens’ President Harold J. Raveche. “We look forward to Frank applying his many years of senior-level experience to this impressive new communications venture, Attila Technologies.”

“As a past president of AT&T Network Services and a former Stevens Trustee, Frank

Ianna brings highly relevant domain expertise to the company,” said Attila Co-Founder, Dr. Patrick White.

A 1971 graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, Ianna spent more than a decade on the Stevens Board of Trustees, stepping down recently. Prior to his retirement from AT&T in 2003, Ianna held a number of senior executive positions. As President of AT&T Network Services, he was responsible for the design, development, deployment, and operation of AT&T’s local and long-distance communications networks. Prior to that, he held the position of Executive Vice President of Network and Computing Services, in which he was responsible for the AT&T Worldwide Intelligent Network, local access initiatives, and the Chief Information Officer (CIO) function for all of AT&T.

In recent years, Ianna served on the board of directors of Advanced Fiber Communications, and he currently serves on the board of Tellabs.

In addition to his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Stevens (1971), Ianna holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1972). In 1985 he attended the Program for Management Development of the Harvard Business School.

“As always, it’s great to come home to Stevens Institute of Technology,” said Ianna of his new role as CEO of Attila. “This company’s patent-pending technology will serve as a platform for real-time integration of diverse communications technologies, helping to achieve true interoperability across networks, without loss of service. I am looking forward to taking the next step forward with Attila Technologies.”

About Attila Technologies

Attila Technologies LLC was founded in 2005 by Stevens Institute and the technology co-inventors, Dr. Patrick White and Nicholas Girard. It is a wireless communications company that provides continuous broadband-on-demand communication services and devices that operate despite saturated airways. Attila’s products are based on breakthrough communications technology from Stevens. This technology is critical to developing a communications system that cannot be interrupted or jammed, resulting in ultra-reliable, high-speed communications. Attila’s approach solves the two most important problems faced by first responders in a disaster – continuous communications and interoperability.

The patent-pending technology was largely developed under funding from the National Science Foundation. To date, three prototypes have been developed and tested for deployment by a New Jersey county police department. Attila has acquired initial investments and is seeking additional investors and partners.

The initial market is the first-responder market. Attila’s adaptive radio meets the critical communication needs of the first responders, as set forth by the Department of Homeland Security. Attila’s radio will turn an entire city into a virtual hot spot for first responders.
